UPI Helps Spread Report From Gay Activist Think Tank On Homosexual Parenting
By Mike Hatfield
January 17, 2008 - United Press International (UPI) has recently published an article about the findings of the Rockway Institute about homosexual parenting without identifying the institute as a homosexual activist think tank.
The UPI report provides no critical analysis of the claims made by the Rockway Institute, but merely transmits its claims as fact.
The Rockway Institute web site describes its goal as providing information "to counter antigay prejudice and inform public policies affecting lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people." Its objectives are clearly political and its claims to objectivity are suspect. It is run by Robert-Jay Green, Ph.D.
The UPI report states that Rockway Institute studies of gay and lesbian couples have shown that lesbian couples are more emotionally close than gay male couples and both gay and lesbian couples are more emotionally close than heterosexual couples.
The institute also asserts that gay and lesbian couples had greater flexibility in their relationships and more equality in the sharing of household tasks.
Dr. Green quotes numerous alleged studies by homosexual researchers that support the idea that homosexual couples are more effective in their relationships than are heterosexual couples. Among those referenced is Charlotte Patterson, Ph.D., a lesbian whose own research has been challenged for its inaccuracies and bias.
According to Green: "Our research found that the most successful couples demonstrate closeness and flexibility."
